this interactive e-learning course
provides a foundation of awareness
and is a pre-requisite for the
instructor-led training. The e-learning
course introduces the Energy
Wheel Hazard Identification method
as well as the “Recognize, Identify,
Assess, Respond” situational awareness
framework to learners. A final
test ensures participants have the
knowledge they need for success in
further developing their skills in the
classroom training. If you would like

2. Trenchless Underground
Construction Awareness instructorled
course:
This eight-hour program builds on
the hazard identification and awareness
skills introduced in the e-learning
and includes interactive exercises
and case studies to assist learners
in applying their new knowledge to
potential scenarios.
This full-day facilitated learning
addresses complex issues related to
trenchless construction site hazards
and controls, as well as broadly applicable
information on workplace safety,
culture, safety communications, proactive
hazard assessments and how
to understand safety aspects of certified
procedures developed by a professional
engineer. The course focuses
specifically on trenchless underground
construction awareness and the
Energy Wheel Hazard Identification
method and “Recognize, Identify,
Assess, Respond” situational awareness
framework, as both are applicable
to any work site where workers must
know what to look for and how to
understand what they’re seeing when
it comes to hazards and controls.
AMHSA uses an approach that
respects the diversity of today’s workforce,
individual learning styles and
the employer’s need to ensure competency
in their workers. This includes
review of applicable legislation, case
studies, practical exercises in assessing
relevant work sites and field hazards
and interactive and engaging activities.

“This course is currently one of
a kind in the province and offers a
chance for us to spread valuable information
regarding safety to a wider
audience that might not have previously
had the chance to work in the
industry alongside a seasoned professional,”
said Kim Davis, an AMHSA
instructor trained on the course. “It’s
always in our best interests to be sharing
safety experience and information
to help ensure that our workers are
going home to their families at the end
of each day.”
Upon approval of its creative sentencing
