get it done. It’s the people here that make this a great place
to work. It’s that family vibe where we all know each other
and their families.”
Leduc credits management with helping to encourage this
working family atmosphere.
“They make a special effort to do things like buying
doughnuts for the team, embarrassing the person by singing
‘happy birthday.’ Whenever we’ve done a big job and the
team comes through to make the impossible happen, other
departments will bring in pizza or buy them coffee to say,
‘thank you.’ That’s pretty cool.”
To help keep connections strong during COVID, the company
incorporated software called “Tiny Pulse,” a platform
designed to take the pulse of the company and see how
everyone is feeling.
“There are weekly surveys for all employees, every person
can do a shout out, send cheers and the whole company sees
it,” said Leduc. “This can be anonymous or not. We started
this a little more than a year ago, having already made the
decision to switch to it to stay connected, and then COVID
happened, so it was perfect timing.”
Following through on the importance of keeping in touch,
the company health and safety officer makes a point of
reminding everyone that it’s important to take COVID precautions
not only at work, but to remember that actions at
home can affect everyone’s livelihood. If someone has been
exposed, has to self-isolate and work at home, the company
doesn’t hesitate to provide any and all resources needed. No
one is left behind.
“The key to the magic here is the true family feel,” said
Norden Sieg, vice president of sales. “You’re not just an
employee, a number or somebody that works for another
manager. We all pull the sled together. If Jan van Bruggen,
the owner and CEO, or myself, as one of the VPs, have to
go downstairs and jump on the forklift, well, we’re going
to do it. We try to represent every person in the company
equally and never put somebody below. There is no separation
between managers, supervisors or employees. We’re all
in this game together.”
