not only providing a record of the site conditions
when surveyed, but also allows you to go back and
review site conditions without the need for a new survey.
This alone can make conducting LiDAR scanning cost
effective if a job has a higher risk of changes or complex
site conditions.
Finally, an understated benefit of the use of LiDAR
scanning is the improvement of worksite safety, both for
your staff and for the public at large. The remote sensing of
LiDAR point clouds can be done from the back of a vehicle,
drones/aircraft or through tripod setups. Regardless,
LiDAR scanning can be conducted quickly and with
minimal disruption to the jobsite. Therefore, this reduces
downtime during construction and requires less personnel
on site, reducing the time that construction might impact
the surrounding public and placing fewer staff members in
potential harm’s way. n
