business to provide a more diverse range of products to its
customers, and L&T continued to find new sources of sand
and gravel.
In 2002, ownership and control of L&T Mix Sand & Gravel
was transitioned to Mixcor Aggregates Inc., another family
company run by Terry, as part of Lorne and Tina’s succession
plan. A portable wash plant was also added at that time to
complement two dry crushing spreads and 10 gravel hauling
units already in the Mixcor fleet.
Since then, Mixcor has continued to add heavy haul
trucks and expand its crushing capacity with the acquisition
of new equipment. There’s also been a significant increase in
Mixcor’s aggregate supply as the company has gained access
to gravel pits in more locations within Alberta, including
Calgary, Sundre, Drumheller, Two Hills and Kinsella as well
as around the Edmonton Area.
Today, Mixcor employs 60 people and supplies base gravel
used to build roads, parking lots and driveways as well as
concrete pads. It also offers a range of washed rock products
that have a variety of uses, including concrete and asphalt
production, landscaping, and drainage applications. In addition,
Mixcor produces a number of different speciality products
such as leachate rock, rip rap and resistivity rock.
