How medical research is used
Medical research informs what we know about a condition
or about the work factors that could lead to the development
of a work-related injury or illness.
For the fair and impartial assessment of causation, WCB
physicians use the American Medical Association (AMA) Guides
to the Evaluation of Disease and Injury Causation as their primary
reference. They’ve also recently introduced a standardized
approach to evaluating new research papers, to determine
if new research may change the opinion based on the existing
medical evidence. New research for consideration can be
submitted by a worker’s treating physician. n
