Focusing on relationships
In addition to improving safety through product
advancements, van Bruggen also puts a strong emphasis on
the three main areas that form the core of Barricades and
Signs’ business – its employees, its clients and its vendors
or suppliers.
“We try very hard to ensure that all three parties are
in a mutually beneficial relationship,” he said. “We also
work pretty diligently to make sure that we get a lot of
perspectives and voices in our company.” We are all road
users, and our collective responsibility to create change is
voiced by our different ways of looking at things.”
He notes that Barricades and Signs employs a diverse
group of people from all walks of life, who all contribute to
the team dynamic. In total, the company has 55 employees
throughout its several locations across Western Canada.
An empowering leader
van Bruggen recognizes that much of his company’s success
stems from his team.
“We’ve got a solid team of people,” he said. “Together, we
grow and drive change. I take pride in being an empowering
leader and ensuring that mindset is ingrained at every level
of the company.”
As Barricades and Signs grew from a small to a medium-sized
business, van Bruggen chose to instill an important
organizational mindset across all staff members.
