“No one could have anticipated this pandemic, and we
need to make sure all stakeholders realize that contractors
are doing the best possible job they can.”
That’s all part of the association’s plan moving forward:
continue to advocate on behalf of members, build
relationships and amplify our collective voice. With that
in mind, when asked what he would say to those thinking
about joining ARHCA and considering a board position,
Kabarchuk says the camaraderie between the Executive and
the Board is nothing short of amazing.
“The leaders who make up the Executive and the Board –
even membership as a whole – all have the same goals, but
they bring different perspectives on how to reach them. We
value the contributions each person on the Board makes,
and that’s something we’d like to see to continue to grow
and develop.”

Proudly Serving Alberta Businesses
As the outgoing chair, Kabarchuk’s experience has taught
him the importance of leaning on the Executive Team, the
Board and the ARHCA staff.
“They are all working diligently to prop up our industry,
and the ARHCA has demonstrated that our industry can
deliver,” he said. “Doubling down on our advocacy efforts
can only serve to increase our credibility and reputation
around the province, from municipalities to the provincial
government. We need to continue to push for sustainability
and growth for both owners and contractors. This will help
to minimize the impact of the impending recession and loss
of funding, which puts a huge strain on companies. If our
province can manage our highway network sustainably, we’ll
all be better for it. Better for government, better for industry,
better for every single Albertan who drives on our roads.”
As a closing thought, we asked Kabarchuk what it is
about the ARHCA that makes him the proudest.
“Aside from our advocacy efforts, I am most proud of
how the ARHCA staff have pulled together. They’ve worked
so hard planning a million different event scenarios as a
result of all the uncertainty, while still managing to deliver
outstanding service to our members. Our Executive and
Board work hard for this association, and I thank them for
making this year enjoyable and worthwhile, but I really
need to thank Ron and his team – it’s the staff who keep us
together and moving forward.”
As the ARHCA looks toward another year, we are
grateful to Joe Kabarchuk for his leadership and wisdom
and are eager to continue down the path of growth
and sustainability. n
