Soon there will be a new chair
of the Alberta Roadbuilders
and Heavy Construction Association.
As the association’s November
convention approaches, Quentin
Huillery’s term as chair of ARHCA is
coming to its natural end.
When we spoke to him in
October, Huillery (pronounced
Hillary) told us, “At the end of the
convention, we have the Chairman’s
Gala, where I basically pass the
torch to the first vice-chair.” That
vice-chair will be Andrew Arnill,
operations manager of Can-West
Seal Coating Inc.
Though the chair term is one
year, Huillery’s board commitment
has already lasted half of a decade.
He spent two years as director, then
served one-year terms as second vicechair,
first vice-chair, then chairman.

That’s all in addition to his day
job: Huillery is the chief operating
officer of Ledcor’s Energy, Mining
& Infrastructure. He’s been with the
Alberta giant for closing in on 20
years and been in the construction
industry for over 27 years. Based
in Edmonton, Huillery was born in
Saskatchewan but raised in northern
Alberta in the Grande Prairie-
Sexsmith area. Married to Malissa,
he is also father to a 10-year-old girl
and a nine-year-old boy.
“We like to travel, and I like to
dirt bike and play hockey with my
son, and spend time drawing and
everything girly with my daughter.
That’s what life’s all about,” he said.
“I come from small-town roots
and have always had an interest in
construction and engineering,” said
the University of Alberta graduate.

“I was driven to the industry through
an engineering degree that I sought
after high school. Coming out of
engineering, I tried some different
avenues, including the design
side of the business, but found that
to be too far removed from actual
construction and the benefit that
comes from that. So I sought out
and worked for a couple of contractors
and worked overseas on some
interesting projects before I arrived
at Ledcor.”
As for serving on the board, for
Huillery the benefits were clear.
“We’ve had a good number of
people at Ledcor serve on the association
and contribute to the various
committees. Our philosophy as
a company very much aligns with
my own: give back to the industry
that defines our own livelihood. We
